James Brooks, se po loňské úspěšné sezóně opět stává Defenzivním koordinátorem PBP.

Trenérské angažmá v PBP nicméně není jedinou Jamesovou fotbalovou zkušeností v Čechách. James přišel do Prahy v roce 2016, aby pomohl našemu tehdejšímu městskému rivalu, vytužit Defenzivní lajnu.

Kombinace perfektních fyzických předpokladů a zkušeností z prestižní Arizona State Univerzity a později šestiletého angažmá v Japonské ALL X-LEAGUE je něco, čemu se na hřišti velmi těžko konkurovalo.

Když se následně PBP v roce 2019 poohlíželo po novém Defenzivním koordinátorovi, James byl první možností. Svůj agresivní herní styl dokázal přenést na celou defenzivní jedenáctku PBP, která se pod jeho vedením stala v loňské sezóně nejlepší obranou v AFL.

V minulosti jsi proti PBP hrál, nyní je to druhý rok v řadě, kdy je budeš trénovat, proč zrovna PBP?

J: PBP mi dali příležitost být jejich defenzivní koordinátor a já jsem se rozhodl to vzít. To, že je Praha úžasné a krásné město je rozhodně plus.

V minulé sezóně umožnila obrana PBP nejméně yardů ze všech týmů AFL, jak na tom chcete stavět?

J: Nejlepší, co teď můžeme udělat, je zapomenout na to a začít pořádně makat. Minulá sezóna skončila již před několika měsíci. Teď je čas se znovu začít soustředit a makat na tom, aby byla letošní sezóna ještě lepší než loňská. Ve skutečnosti je to o mentalitě, kdy nikdy nejste spokojení a chcete víc.

Ztratili jsme druhou polovinu semifinále a tím i postup do finále, co se letos bude lišit?

J: Rád bych věřil tomu, že loňská prohra v semifinále, je pro nás ohromnou motivací se naučit, že věci se musí vždy dokončit. A také, jak je důležité hrát stejně tvrdě po 4 celé čtvrtiny.

Jaká je osobnost obrany PBP?

J: Nedat soupeři žádný prostor. Tvrdá a fyzická hra. Vysoké nasazen!

Co bys vzkázal fanouškům PBP?

J: PBP má skvělé fanoušky a my si opravdu Vážíme Vaší podpory! Budeme prvním mimo-rakouským teamem, který vyhraje Austrian Bowl!

James Brooks, after last year's successful season, is back for his second season as the PBP Defensive Coordinator.

Coaching PBP is not James' only football experience in the Czech Republic. James arrived in Prague in 2016 to help our city rival to toughen their Defensive Line.

The combination of perfect physical skills and experience from the prestigious Arizona State University and later a six-year engagement in the Japanese ALL X-LEAGUE is something that has been very difficult to compete against.

When PBP was looking for the new Defensive Coordinator in 2019, James was the first option. He was able to transfer his aggressive play style to the whole defensive eleven, which under his leadership became the best defense in AFL.

You used to play against PBP in the past, now it's you second year in a row that you will coach them, why PBP?

J: PBP gave me an opportunity as a Defensive Coordinator, so that’s ultimately why I choose to come here. Prague being an awesome and beautiful city is also a plus.

Last season, PBP defense allowed fewest total yards per game out of all AFL teams, how do you want to build on that?

The best way to build on it is forget about it and get back to work. Last season has been over for a few months now. It’s time to refocus and work towards being even better than last year. Really, it’s a mentality of not being complacent.

We lost second half of the semifinals and thus the advancement to the finals, what will we do different this year?

J: I would like to think last year’s semifinal loss is motivation for us to learn how to finish and learn how important it is to play hard for 4 full quarters.

What is the personality of PBP defense?

J: Swarming the ball, playing physical and playing with great effort.

What would you say to your fans?

J: PBP has great fans and we truly appreciate the support! We will be the first non-Austrian team to make an Austrian Bowl!
